Bath Academy Case Study
Bath Academy is a well-respected academic institution in the World Heritage city of Bath. As with many buildings in the area, particular attention had to be paid to the unique aesthetics of the interior.
Bath Academy had an outdated intercom and access control unit on the main entrance that was no longer fit for purpose. Pupils and staff could not be heard by staff due to the busy road opposite the entrance. The door was often unsecure and this was identified as a health & safety and security hazard.
FTL Secure Solutions proposed a fully IP ‘Zenitel’ HD audio system and a TDSi MIFARE entry card system to the main door.
The Zenitel system was chosen due to its incredible sound quality, offering a significant improvement on the legacy system. Whilst it is often employed in busy industrial areas and airports, FTLSS recognised that the background noise would require a different solution.
The ability to use Power over Ethernet (PoE) meant we could reduce the amount of cabling required.
TDSi’s intuitive EXgarde access control system was chosen due to its easy to use interface and reliability. Staff are now able to use the MIFARE card for ID purposes and any other MIFARE compatible device.
A 2 phone – 1 HD audio intercom solution to be used alongside a read-in TDSi MIFARE entry system, to control entry to the main building.
The Zenitel IP intercom system is unique in that it has a fully programmable interface managed by a web server. This made installation simpler as well as making future adjustments easy for the client.
The Zenitel HD audio intercom system has provided significantly improved sound quality. The main reception is now able to effectively communicate with visitors and students, therefore increasing security.
The TDSi access control system has improved security to the main door and also enables an audit trail of entrance to the building. The EXgarde also allow for full scalability as and when further doors are required.
